Super S.T.A.R.s of GMSD September

Each month, students across GMSD have the opportunity to honor special teachers and district staff through a Germantown Education Foundation (GEF) program known as S.T.A.R. (Staff/Teacher Appreciation and Recognition). Participating students make a one-time, tax-deductible gift of $8 to the Foundation and then they can write a message about what makes their teacher honoree so special.

“You make me feel calm,” says one student about his fourth grade teacher in his heartfelt message. Another child notes to his favorite teacher, “I like the way you always help me tie my shoes”.

At the end of the month, the GEF makes special trips to each school to hand deliver the S.T.A.R. Awards. “The most exciting part,” says Stephanie Brockway, Executive Director of the GEF, “is that at the end of the school year our teacher who has earned the most stars is eligible to will win a new car for the next school year!”
Brockway also hints at upcoming displays at each school that will highlight the teacher tallies—so students can track the leaders.

“A car?!” shouts a class at Dogwood Elementary School. “We have got to get our teacher that ride,” jokes one little girl.

To join in on the fun of the S.T.A.R. Awards, you can find the form by clicking here. Once completed, it can be turned in to your homeroom teacher.
